Côr Meibion Aberhonddu
The Brecon (Aberhonddu) area has a long tradition of choral music. The Aberhonddu Choir has a long and distinguished career, having won first prize for Male Choirs at the National Eisteddfod in 1946 at Mountain Ash.
Reformed in 1961, the choir has performed at venues both far and wide, in Britain and on the continent. It has visited Brecons twin towns Gouesnou in Brittany and Saline, Michigan, USA. One highlight was to be the first outside choir to sing in the Chapel Royal of St. Peter ad Vincula in the Tower of London at the request of the Yeoman of the Guard.
The choir has appeared at the Festival of Male Choirs in the Royal Albert Hall on eight occasions. It was present at Cardiff Castle for VJ Day service in 1995 and took part in the Beating of Retreat at the Brecon Barracks in 2001.
Although prestigious occasions are special and enjoyed by the choir, the every day work of the choir is that of fund raiser and they have raised many thousands of pounds for charitable causes both national and local.
